Caramel Peanut

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised to see that the regular Detour Whey Protein bar only had 11 grams of sugar, as the brand makes such a big deal out of its lower sugar bar that I was afraid these would be loaded with sugar. These are decently sized bars, with 350 calories and 30 grams of protein each. Although they are called "whey protein bars," they actually contain some milk protein and calcium caseinate for a bit of extended release action. The bars are higher in fat than most, but do provide CLA. Carbohydrate content is moderate, with 32 grams overall and four grams of fiber. Not many vitamins or minerals, but these bars do contain extra leucine and taurine. Oddly, the taste of these bars (or at least this flavor) isn't as spectacular as the lower sugar bars. But it's still tasty.

Detour bars are high on my list of best tasting quick protein sources. It falls short as a meal replacement because the hunger sitation isn't as good as bars with more complex carbs but it is a good bar in a pinch.

It is also a good bar to have if you want to have a break in your diet when you normally are missing something sweet due to the sugar content of normal chocolate bars and such.

Good ingredient profile is very attractive and the fact that it does not contain alcohol sugar gets it top marks from me.

These bars are decent tasting (better tasting options include VPX ZI and DS Sustain) but the ingredient profile is pretty good, with low-sugar options available. That is a plus, since I like to watch the amount of sugars that I take in. Protein blend is good in these bars, with WPC, WPI and hydolyzed whey coming before the soy protein (which I try and avoid). Other ingredients are nothing to write home about but nothing bad.

The issue I have with these bars is that for the price, they are a little small. I'd like more in my bar for the price that I'm paying, and Detour bars are a little lacking. However, if you're looking for a good (not great) tasting bar with solid ingredients, these may be one to consider.

I tried so many protein bars that can be hard to say which one is good, bad or better than other. Judge protein bars its one of the most complicated thing due to the different ingredient profile they have.

For example many protein bars taste good as hell but they are loaded with sugars, sugar alochols and/or sat fat and many that doesnt taste that good actually are better in terms of macronutrients and are healthier choices, thats why it is so hard.

Detour bars are great meal replacements, they have an equal amount of each macronutrient an a decent amount of calories as a whole meal. The taste is so good, there is no bad taste or after taste and its easy to over eat them.

The Low sugar version of Detour bars its my prefered, its a much more healthier choice with only a few grams of sugar and high amount of protein.

You can try them at some local places that sell them individually and judge by yourself. I recommend them.

Out of all the protein bars out there, Detour has a pretty decent product with this bar. It taste good and seems to supply a quick amount of whey protein to you. Several different flavors are available and they all leave you satisfied. Some protein bars leave you hungry, or make you want to eat something else, or just wanting to shovel it down with water. This bar on the other hand is goes down like a candy bar and almost makes you feel guilty for eating it until you see the nutrient breakdown and realize it's not that bad for you. The price of these bars runs about average to all the others, and if you're looking for a great tasting bar that doesn't taste like your typical run of the mill protein bar, then give Detour a try.
